Phil Dillon

I asked Phil for a statement but he just quoted Ray Davies at me - "People take pictures of each other, to prove that they really existed". Fair enough. Pictures should speak for themselves.

Phil is a photographer, musician and, by his own admission, a stylish geezer. Actually, he is a fantastic photographer. What I like most about his photographs is that he doesn't follow the rules. If he wants to put the horizon slap bang in the middle of his photograph, he will. If he wants to shoot into the sun, he will. And if he wants to saturate his images to buggery, he will. And sometimes he does. His recent exhibition, '21st Century Cave Painting in Medway' at The Brook Theatre, showed us all what a very talented and versatile photographer Phil is.

Fellow Flickr photographer, Conundrum37, says: "Phil Dillon has a fresh, quirky approach to photography. He takes some brilliant candid shots, without appearing to be intrusive. He sees pictorial possibilities where others might pass by, and his recent exhibition ‘21st Century Cave Painting in Medway’ is full of humour, observation, and a clear love of his environment. His style is his own, with a great instinct for natural composition. He doesn’t shrink from the ugly, but points it up well so no comment is necessary. This is a very talented guy, he’s a musician as well as photographer, and his love of music comes through in his photo stream- though he tells me his singing voice is less gravelly since he gave up smoking. All in all, he’s a lovely bloke, and a fine photographic artist."
